How to make a mountain out of a mole hill

Earlier, we reported George Higgins will soon be working as Mayor Sam Sullivan's caucus coordinator. So we wanted to ask his employer some questions about that new post, such as how it's being funded. Because it's our understanding that said funding isn't coming from taxpayers - which is as it should be, given that Mr. Higgins is expected to be functioning in a somewhat partisan capacity. But so far we haven't been successful in getting a response to this question. In a message left yesterday on Public Eye's answering machine, the mayor's community relations director Anna Lilly said, "I don't really have any information for you. That's a hire made by the mayor. So I'm just going to let him know you're interested in additional information and let him decide if he'd like to give you a call back." We're still waiting.

Sam's probably locked away with staff going "what shall I say.. what should I do?"..."please someone tell me what to do".....or maybe....he's thinking if I come out with the Olympic flag and do a couple of turns everyone will be dazzled by my munificence and forget those pesky questions

Yet another media relations coup. It's just pure genius. Take careful notes, kids.

If George will not be working out of the Mayor's office, why is he being touted as a Mayor's hire?

If he is a partisan, he would logically be hired by the NPA Board, no? Is there no more Board? Is the Mayor's Office now the de facto NPA Board? The NPA will allow the Mayor to use an outside fund to accomplish "caucus relations"???

Is he a "party" co-ordinator or "Mayor's Office" co-ordinator??? If he's a "Mayor's hire" then even though it's partisan work, who's paying this man to suffer through the latter half of this gong show without parallel.

Anna Lilly's seemingly bizarre response raises all these questions and more.

Your questions, Sean, were completely fair.

And the hits just keep on comin'......

Didn't Mayor Larry have a partisan on city hall staff? Who footed the bill for Geoff Meggs? And is anyone suggesting that Mayor Sam's senior staff AREN'T partisan? While the criticism is a little silly, I agree that Mayor Sam's continued dropping of the communications ball is a little keystone cops-like.

She doesn't know? I guess they were too busy summoning the power of Rudy Giuliani to save Stanley Park to realize what the most likely question about George Higgins was going to be.

As far as caucus coordinator goes, shouldn't that already exist? Were Lilly or Fontaine not already doing this? Or someone from the Board?

I almost feel bad for the NPA diehards out there. Not quite, but almost.

Media out of Sullivan's office has been a joke since he became mayor.

How do you fix a train wreck?

It's sad. He had so much promise.

Geoff Meggs was paid by the City, Neil Monkton was the guy who was paid by COPE. This whole thing is Sullivan's fault.

He hires a new man for the party who isn't paid or even approved by the party, but was a mayor's pick, but isn't being paid by the mayor's office either!
