Preparing for every eventuality?

Earlier, The Ottawa Citizen's Norma Greenaway reported rumours a "couple of respected and hardworking Conservatives left out of the first cabinet" could be promoted to that august body this week "including B.C. MP James Moore and Calgary MP Diane Ablonczy." Of course, as we found out today, those promotions didn't happen. But, curiously, images for both Ms. Ablonczy and Mr. Moore have been uploaded to the Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Website.

Ouch! Not bad enough that Moore was once again screwed over by Harper (as was BC. Sec of State for Sports to an Ontarian?), but this just adds insult to injury.

Poor guy.

I bet this is punishment

Why shouldnt sports go to an Ontarian?
A BCer already holds the Olympic portfolio.
And I dont see how Moore was more worthy of promotion than today's big winner from BC, Jay Hill.

Let's not forget the positions in cabinet are spred around. With a jerk like Garry Lund as a cabinet minister and the turncoat of kingway still in the crowd, why should Harpo add much more in BC? They are overstacked now.

"Poor guy.

That's the political business, babe.

There's always a heartache.

Wouldn't cry over him. I've seen long term hard working volunteers get passed over in favour of a few fast talkin' people who got the paid jobs and
yet those people did very little for the party or campaigns within in terms of real work compared to the long term hard working volunteer who deserved the paid job in the first place.

If you think being MP is thankless, then try being a volunteer in a political party.

The most important job is to represent your constituents. Cabinet posts are nice, but if one
wants to run for office just to get a cabinet post, that person is running for the wrong reasons and should not get elected.

But that's the political business, babe.

Always a heartache.

I have a hard time understanding Harper's fondness over Moore. Maybe this is just a ploy trying to throw liberals off the loop. While I dont like him, I can certainly understand Moore's "appeal" to young and urban BCers. I continue to believe that he, like Peter McKay, will continue to be a pawn played by Harper. I suspect once someone in Moore's image but better comes along he will be kicked to the 2nd row within a minute.

Not matter what anyone does to remake the Harperites, for the most part, they are inflexible, incurable, extremist idealogues, who wouldn't know what exactly to do with someone as talented as Mr. Moore. They have firm control of the party apparatus and PMO.

Bottom line: if the feckless Dion gets any lift past Harper in Quebec, it's over. Fiberal minority. There will be nothing but horse-trading across the country beyond that, with negligible change in the rest of the numbers, including Ontario.

The PM's fiberal progressive makeover didn't last that long now did it?

What a confused lot!

Yep Alex, just as your hero Gordon Campbell has firm control of the BC Liberal Party and BC Liberal Government.

He wouldn't know what to do with talented people
both in the party and in government. In fact Campbell wouldn't know a talented party member if he saw one.

Better get those work gloves from Home Depot now so you're ready to go out and put up signs or help bring in the furniture for the campaign office (or are you "too important" for that kind of work?)

Complainin' about the federal Liberals getting back into government isn't going to result in anything.

Get your rear in gear and get out there and do some canvassing, or signs for the Conservative candidate of choice once the election comes.

Spending time on the phone talkin' politics all day isn't going to win votes.

Other than being somewhat of a unsuccessful psychic, your suggestions are not something that I will be doing in the next election, having done them many times over, in past elections.

I wasn't complaining about the Grits being back in power either. You are a strange fellow.

I was, though, making several statements of fact. Then again, what would you know about facts?

Your venom for Gordon is as well documented in this blog as my admiration for his general excellence in Government. I do not have the time or inclination to explain why your feeble comparison is grossly incongruent, suffice it to say only that we disagree and I wish you well.

In case any of the other inmates haven't greeted you properly today...Happy Delusional Friday!

Too busy writing campaign direction for a campaign to get out for a little excercise and build support, eh? Figures.

In campaigns I've help run (being a campaign mananger with a few wins myself) everyone does a little bit of canvassing signs and on election day either driving or working the lists. No one is important to forgo doing the basics when the basics need to get done and we're short of volunteers.

Had a guy on our team that thought the same way you did. Even figured that someone should get his coffee for him.

He was gone the next day, kicked off the team.

"I was, though, making several statements of fact. Then again, what would you know about facts?"

Actually for me quite a bit. But Alex isn't the only Orcale in Greece.

Good. Gordon has done well, but you and him need to relax a bit. Work in a team environment and get away from the mantra that Gordon knows all things and everything. He doesn't.

Greetings from Ward Six to Alex in Ward twenty three.

Good grief man, do you honestly believe you're the only one who can be a campaign manager? and
think you're "it" as best choice for one?

Get real. There's far more talented and more team based people who would be able to run a campaign than you think.
