Earlier, we reported Allan De Genova's family was spotted at Vision Vancouver's annual general meeting. But is that an indication the headlining parks board commissioner - who was suspended from the Non-Partisan Association caucus back in May - will be defecting to the centrist civic party? That's the question we posed to Mr. De Genova in an interview earlier today. The response: apparently, he didn't know his whole family would be attending the meeting. Said Mr. De Genova, "To see all the family there - that's kind of interesting. Cause there was a dynamic running around that room saying, 'Where's De Genova when the rest of the family is there?' But I will be coming out at the end of the month with a message after soul-searching after all these months."
The commissioner wouldn't elaborate what that message would be. Although, he did say, "I've reached all 23 different neighbourhoods and had a chance to talk to the people to find out what they think about my job - what I've done out there. Unlike, (fellow commissioner) Heather Holden and (association director) Doug Leung I don't have power in the backrooms. I'm not some backroom broker...But that's never where I wanted to have my strength. I have my strength in the community. And so I reached out to those 23 different neighboorhoods. And it was very, very interesting to hear from the community as to where they want me to go...And the community has responded with a huge message to me, which I've now taken in. And that message I will be conveying at the end of the month."
And has the Non-Partisan Association covenyed a message to him? Well, it turns out Mayor Sam Sullivan did phone Mr. De Genova on Saturday - in advance of the Vision Vancouver meeting - which was, he says, "the first call I've received from Sam since the day I got suspened. I'm disappointed because at every event I've been to, he's recognized everybody else in the room but he never recognized myself." Unfortunately, he didn't have a chance to talk to Mayor Sullivan. "So I don't know why he's calling me. Maybe he's calling to say they're not going to take me back?"
Jesus Murphy, how much more of this can we take Al? You didn't know your entire family was going?
Never one to shy away from a camera, or see a mic he didn't like, DivaNova is one special case. Look at his track record: everything attached to a photo-op, self-promoted sole credit for projects where many hands rowed the boat to shore, and venomous attacks bathed in "aw shucks, who me?" levelled against people like Heather Holden, who exemplify candidate completeness.
Lead by "the people" and advice of "twenty three different neighborhoods"????? Stop Al, please. Everyone's BS detector is steaming to irreparably broken because of you. This is just another Diva Nova ploy to garner sympathy. How scientific was this canvas? Jim Green's phone list doesn't count.
No wonder he can't get along with Sam. "Aw shucks" only goes so far, and then people want to know what you've really done.
But I laugh when I think of the fools who will embrace Al. That will be Vision's dilemma: can they ever completely trust Al? No, clearly.
No one can.
Holy crap.
i agree with Alex.
weird, me too!
first time for everything I guess.
I hear that Greg Wilson, NPA campaign manager, has joined Vision Vancouver as well. Maybe Bob Rae convinced him to do it.
