The Tipping Point?

Earlier, we reported the Harper administration appointed Kerry-Lynne Findlay - who ran for the federal Conservative nomination in Richmond prior to the last election - to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal. But what you may not know is that Ms. Findlay may also have been instrumental in helping former Focus on the Family Canada president Darrel Reid win that nomination. According to The Richmond Review's Martin van den Hemel, "the turning point (at the candidate selection meeting) may have come when nominee Kerry-Lynne Findlay, a Vancouver lawyer, threw her support behind Reid. By that point, Grant Smith and Bill Majcher had already lined up behind (Howard) Jampolsky." Mr. Reid ended up winning by six votes.

Yes, that is correct. And Darrel Reid will probably win the nomination again, this time without any outside help:).

Here is my question. How is Findley's appointment to the federal Human Rights Tribunal being received by Aboriginal and other minority organizations?

Don't bet any cash on that FHK, Jampolsky has been quite active in the community and is on the way to winning this time. Darrel came up short and now has to convince his own supporters that they should sign up again before recruiting the hundreds of people it will take to win this nomination. He has to justify his failure to the membership and face to face to those he signed up last time.

The new nomination rules will make this an one on one battle and all the former nominees that actually live in Richmond will be backing Jampolsky from the start this time.

Reid improved the Conservative numbers in Richmond when most Conservatives accross BC were struggling. I don't know that it will be too hard to convince his supporters to give him another try.

I guess Reid wasn't as confident as Jonathan and FHK, he just took a job as the Chief of Staff to the Minister of the Environment in Ottawa.
