This weekend's British Columbia's federal Liberal council meeting was a comparatively tame affair. Council members noted Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca constituency association president Jason Walker brought three of his executive members along - just in case Jim Karygiannis showed up for a rematch, quipped one wit. Unfortunately, Joe Volpe's former national campaign coordinator - who got in a dust-up with Mr. Walker at the last council meeting - was no where to be seen. But some constituency presidents did take verbal swipes at returning officer Kim Haakstad - questioning her neutrality. Although we're told Ms. Haakstad ended up giving as good as she got. Meanwhile, as expected, council members passed a resolution endorsing - in-principle - the recommendations included in the red ribbon task force's final report. Those on hand to witness the...er...historic proceedings included former leadership candidate Carolyn Bennett, Richmond MP Raymond Chan and Vancouver South MP Ujjal Dosanjh.
"But some

Actually what happened was Kim stated that she was neutral and a whole bunch of people started giggling. No one said anything questioning her neutrality. Nonetheless, she was quite put out at the giggles.
A neutral LPC party is kind of equating a fat kid resisting the urge to eat a smartie. Impossible. Call it what it is. Haakstad did however learn that the more she talks, and the louder she talks the more people just give up. Interesting strategy. Graunted, Mr. Walker provides an enjoyable amount of fun by actually asking hard questions, the old boys don't like it, but hey, the party is changing. Imagine a party where people's actions are actually held accountable. I have a dream....
That would be Dr. Jason Walker, not Mr. :)
It is funny to watch folks who've been around the Liberal Party for ages carp about current the LPCBC when mere years ago many of these same people were allied with or a part of the closed-shop LPCBC of the 90s or some woefully despotic Liberal riding association. I'm not referring to this Jason Walker fellow, but we must recognize that many of Liberals who now wine incessantly about democracy in the LPCBC were or continue to be complete tyrants in their own little fiefdoms.
