A war in heaven

It seems the sainted Dona Cadman may have to put up a fight if she wants to be cannonized as the federal Conservative candidate in Surrey North. In an interview with Public Eye, Surrey Food Bank board member Pamela Tennant confirmed she's also considering running for the nomination. "I haven't decided to announce yet. I'm still consulting my daughters because they're the most important people to me in the whole world," said the single mother of three, who works as a market sales manager for Labour Ready Inc. "They're kind of telling me, 'Mommy, you do so much already. Are you sure this is what you really want to do.' But I think I can make a huge difference."

Explained Ms. Tennant, "I used to be a client of the Surrey Food Bank. So I've been down there. I've lived down there. And I just have a deep passion for what people go through." As a result, she says "My focus is going to be on matters directly relating to the addiction difficulties of people in that area, directly relating to new immigrigant families and what they're going through in that area and directly relating to working families that are in that area."

Ms. Tennant, who speaks Punjabi, added she would be "more of a hands on MP," than Ms. Cadman. And, "while I think (the late Chuck) Cadman did an excellent job, I think that Ms. Cadman should be challenged (for the nomination) because she backed (New Democrat) Penny Priddy (during the election) and now she's flopping to the Conservatives." Ms. Tennant, who recently took out a Tory membership but has voted for the party in the past, was profiled last year in the April and May edition of The Office Journal.

As the nomination rules state she has to have been a member for six months or for at least 6 months in 2005. Does she qualify?

I would expect that the core of the long time members in that area would back Dona and they are the people who can put bums in seats at a nomination meeting.

"the people who can put bums in seats at a nomination meeting"

I always knew the federal Liberals under Martin always had that one down to a science.

"Ms. Tennant, who speaks Punjabi", when did speaking Punjabi actually mattered? Last time Cadman I was defeated in the primary you said? Unlike last time though, Dona Cadman is certainly making sure history does not repeat itself as she actually making preprations against challengers this time around. This suggests to me that whowever runs against her is committing political suicide as Mr. Bill-Good-in-Punjabi Cheema (yes, another Punjabi speaker)who defeated Chuck now disappeared into thin air this time.

Let's not forget that Dave Matta won the nomination race well before Cadman had a chance to announce her intention to run. By backing Priddy, she conveniently lent a hand to her friend who in turn "helped" to clear her way to become nominated this time. I believe there has been rumors that Penny Priddy is retiring. It is only right for Priddy to return the favor dont you think so?

Thank you for all your comments and feedback. It does matter that I speak Punjabi, as much as it matters I speak French, and Spanish and English and any other language I can learn.

Anything I can do to reach the ethnically diverse citizens of Surrey is all right by me, and from response from others, all right by them also.

Seems, I will not be taking up the nomimation run as I disclosed publicly a couple of weeks ago. But make no quams about it, I will be part of the change to this region, come hell or high water.

How can anyone sit back and allow the degradation to continue in Surrey North. Dona should be ready to assist her constituence no matter the percieved need for a feminine touch in Ottawa. You just may see me turn up provincially, in the mean time, give to the food bank. Or a local organization that meets the needs on the front lines.

Thanks
Pamela
