Tinges of blue?

Today, The Globe and Mail's Bill Curry reported Assembly of First Nations leadership candidate Bill Wilson "could have a chance" at incumbent Phil Fontaine if he is seen as being closer to the Conservatives. Mr. Curry noted "Ken Thomas, who chaired the Tory aboriginal caucus during the Mulroney years, is working on Mr. Wilson's campaign." And now it has come to our attention that former Non-Partisan Association board member Alex Tsakumis and Stephen Rogers, who ran for the party in Vancouver Quadra during the past two election, will be co-hosting a wine and cheese reception for the outspoken lawyer at the Pan Pacific Vancouver. But, in an interview with Public Eye, Mr. Tsakumis said his support for Mr. Wilson has nothing to do with Mr. Fontaine's tight relationship with the previous Liberal administration in Ottawa. Instead, the Conservative cardholder explained "I was asked by a mutual friend of Bill's and mine if I would be will to co-host the event. I've met the chief a few times in the past. And I'm an admirer of his tenacity and the forthright manner in which he conducts his affairs. And I was happy to be a co-host." The following is a complete copy of the invite to that event.

Subject: Chief Bill Wilson

Hi Friends,

On Monday July 10 from 6-9pm please join me in attending a wine and cheese reception for Chief Bill Wilson. This event is co-hosted by Stephen Rogers and Alex Tsakumis. It will be held in the Topaz Suite at the Pan Pacific hotel.

Chief Wilson is running for the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN). Many of the Chiefs across Canada began arriving this morning and we hope many of them will be stopping by.

So my apologies for this late note to you.

Cheers

Jamie Lee

Is this the same Bill Wilson that had a spot of bother a few years ago with his position in the first nations summit? Maybe a different guy?

Just another example of the irrelevant nature of AFN in the lives of First Nations peoples.
Rather than their connection to their own people ,being the most important factor as to ones ability to lead AFN,it is ones connection to power(the ones who sign their pay cheques),to the very entity that is responsable for so much of the injustice within Indian country.
But,should we be surprised AFN is a govt funded org.The chiefs are agents of the govt and beholding to the "Indian Act",not their own people.

Yawn. Conservative Beastmaster Metcalfe called Conservative Beastmaster Tsakumis and now Wilson has a big dog in his possee, just in case someone needs a cheque or three and some nasty work done in the backroom. Don't let the tailored suits fool you, Tsakumis is always up to a good old street fight. How difficult was this to figure out? Fontaine might have a fight on his hands after all.

Bill Wilson wanted to run for the Liberals in Vancouver Island North in the last election, but got cold feet at the last minute. Maybe he's a big friend of David Emerson's?

The Torys can push old school backroom operatives like Tsakumis in there all they want. Too little too late. The election is in two days and Phil Fontaine has it wrapped up. Unless of course Tsakumis manages to produce another "Philip Fontaine" on the ballot...

Bill sort of got thumped by Phil today.

DI--

Yes.

Looks like neither Philip nor Philippa made it to the ballot on time.

Perhaps their bus was just a wee bit late?
