Earlier, The Globe and Mail's Campbell Clark noted "two dozen" former lobbyists cum Tory staffers have gotten back into the government relations business since the Harper administration took power - among them Geoff Norquay, who was Conservative leader Stephen Harper's communications director between October 2004 and June 2005. And it seems Mr. Norquay - who is now a principal with Earnscliffe Strategy Group Inc. - has built-up a rather substantial list of clients. According to the federal registry, he's now schmoozing on behalf of Astral Media Inc., Bell Canada Enterprises Inc., Canada's Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies Rx&D, the Canadian Plastics Industry Association, Labatt Breweries of Canada Ltd., Microsoft Canada Inc, Suncor Energy Inc. and Transalta Corp.
So how many members of the Conservative PMO or Conservative Ministrial staffers become lobbyists which would require a five year cooling off period once Bill C-2 is passed?
ZERO!
Sean
You need to understand that neither lobbying the government nor being part of the government and being lobbied are illegal OR unethical.
What liberals don't seem to comprehend is that the unethical part occurrs when you receive personal enrichment in return for your support. I know that this is a bit tough for some to understand so let me use a hypothtical example:
If I were an elected official with a say in matters concerning the environment or, perhaps, east coast development, and you flew me and my cronies on your private plane to your east coast fishing resort for a little fishing holiday, THAT would be unethical. In fact, it would be disgustingly unethical.
This thread is not about Sean.
Rather, conservatives are calling in every who knows who just as much as any party to get their turn at the levers of power.
None of us are more righteous than anyone else... that's the truth. However, the conservatives ran on a claim of "holier than them". We all knew it just wasn't so... and we also now know that the CPC is the only one believing their own press.
CPC, take this hint: stick to the issues and not artificial claims of self-righteousness.
"CPC, take this hint: stick to the issues and not artificial claims of self-righteousness"
Would the Liberals do the same if they were returned to power?
CPC: Take this hint: Do not learn from the federal Liberals. Despite the fact that they were the best in the business when it come to that nonsense.
A few of us in the Liberal Party are ashamed of
the antics of a few people such as Volpe.
Nothing like Tory spin to clean out an ugly stain. Harpor's proving to be quite adept at making like a Liberal; it's even funnier to watch his followers twist their words to make their
hero's dictatorial statements appear like Moses at the mountain.
