All may not well in the state that is the provincial New Democrat caucus. Rumours are afoot there could be a staff shakeup ahead of tomorrow's two-day caucus retreat at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel. Those rumours follow the release of a recent Mustel Research Group Ltd. poll showing New Democrat support sagging at 37 percent compared with the Liberals who are at 54 percent. The caucus also received a drumming in the press for their performance during the spring legislative session.
Unless the staff shake-up is involves Carole James, NOTHING will change in my opinion.
I agree. Joy and Jenny were, frankly, a more effective opposition. This Opposition has the numbers (33 members!), and it has experienced staff. The problem seems to be the leadership.
The biggest problem with the NDP is that they aren't a focused solid group. Some like James are just too nice. Joy and Jenny were good opposition. The NDP has an opportunity now (since the Liberals are in their second term and can't blame the NDP for all the bad stuff any more).
there is nothing wrong with the staff, its the mla's who are the problem. they don't have any tigers, just pussycats. that starts from the top with the leader. quite frankly she has dropped the ball repeatedly. if she had any political sense whatsoever she would unleash the likes of harry lalli, adrian dix, corky evans and leonard krog. its so bad these effective mla's have had the fight coached out of them. these people know how to score points and keep the government on its heel. you can be a very effective opposition mla if you have served in government and know where the weaknesses are. its too bad carol james briefing books forgot to mention this. maybe thats the problem, she is a bureaucrat, not a politician. maybe thats why she gets along with gordon campbell so much, they both love org charts, briefing books and policy manuals.
