Job includes autographed copy of Blood and Belonging

The court of federal Liberal leadership candidate Michael Ignatieff is hiring. In an interview with Public Eye, the Ivy Leaguer's soon-to-be Western Canada campaign director David Hurford confirmed he's already spoken with a number of "interested peoples" about filling several paid positions in British Columbia. When asked whether there would be four such organizers, Mr. Hurford said "There could be more. There could be less. It could be a series of part-time things. It could be a couple people full-time. The key is to be flexible and not be rigid. Especially when you're first getting started."

And will those staffers be working out of the Marine Building, as has been rumoured? "We haven't decided yet," said Mr. Hurford. "We don't know whether we'll have a campaign headquarters. We may have a virtual headquarters for a while. I think we'll look to the national campaign to see how they structure it in other regions of the country. And I'm a big believer in talking to your team before you make a lot of these decisions."

Mr. Hurford, whose resume included a stint as a special advisor to former cabinet minister Allan Rock, is presently working for the Manitoba Floodway Expansion Authority. But he'll be taking a leave of absence from the authority when he official starts work next week for the Ignatieff campaign. Said Mr. Hurford, "Even though I'm responsible for Western Canada, I think most of my time in the short-term will be spent in British Columbia."

Please, please, not Iggy. Anybody (even Belinda) but not Iggy and not his entourage.

"And I'm a big believer in talking to your team before you make a lot of these decisions."

This is the kind of inclusivity we need in this party!

Ignatieff is a good thinker and a very personable man... he will do well on the first ballet and second ballets but will need a good team for the the third and later ones to combat Bob Rae's labour team. I think liberals have a membership cuttoff of July??? In other words, he who organized now wins.

I don't like Iggy much at all, but getting David Hurford on board is a major coup for his campaign.

So what ever happened to volunteering because one believed in the direction of the candidate?

Spending money on people in a political campaign (except the Campaign manager and even then only his/her expenses should be looked after) wastes money and doens't leave much for the important things such as events, and supporter contact.

Look to see excessively paid people who think they are important working a campaign that doesn't go further than the second ballot.

Some will insist on insane levels of renumeration.

Expect to see the remains of the Chretieniste work his campaign in B.C.

In my view, Hurford is unpopular in western Canada. If Iggy had lived in the country for the last 30 years he might have known that.

Translation: Help us. Please? Why aren't you listening?!?!? COME ON, WE'LL PAY YOU IF YOU HELP US!?!?!?

Ignatieff is just another egg head wannbe. The biggest mistake he could make is going to the union club to meet "supporters" who are about as useful as a bathing suit in the arctic. Maybe he is going to go after all those Liberals that were so instrumental in helping david mulroney and co in the last election. Now thats a winning crowd.

The only sensible thing he has done is recruit David Hurford.
