Rae gunners

On Monday, The Globe and Mail's Campbell Clark reported Bob Rae is "planning to launch his campaign for the Liberal leadership early next week." But who's going to be backing him in British Columbia? Well Rob Mingay's name has been running on the rumour mill. And, in an interview with Public Eye, Mr. Mingay, who was former federal New Democrat leader Ed Broadbent's press secretary and is now the sales and marketing vice-president for Rocky Mountain Production Services, confirmed he's lending his support to the ex-premier. Meanwhile, Pam McDonald, who headed up former Prime Minister Jean Chretien's British Columbia desk, hasn't returned calls from Public Eye despite an earlier promise to speak with us. But, if she did, we'd ask her whether she too is supporting Mr. Rae.

Bob Rae reminds me somewhat of Jimmy Carter - one-term heads of governments who meant well and brought some gravitas to their position, but flopped miserably. At least Carter had the good sense to end his political career. It's a shame to see Rae tarnish his remaining credibility, such as it is, by investing so much to head a party that stands for so little.

If I were Rae or Mingay I wouldn't be expecting the same meek, milque-toast response from the NDP that Ujjal Dosanjh got for switching to the Liberals in 2004.

The NDP has recovered enough that it no longer feels it has to suffer any betrayal in silence. In Ontario especially the party has signalled a new, more adult attitude in the case of Brother Hargrove, ... who, along with Brother Haggard, will not be a Liberal Senator after all. Pity, ... Larry Campbell will have to find his own way around the Red Chamber all by himself.

The Liberals electing Bob Rae leader would kill the party in Ontario in the next election. Rae was a disaster as premier, this day should not be a rae day.

"In Ontario especially the party has signalled a new, more adult attitude in the case of Brother Hargrove..."

I'm not quite sure how kicking a labour activist who has done more for working people in the country than Jack Layton will ever dream of, and who developed a pragmatic election strategy, out of the party is an "adult attitude." It sounds quite immature to me!

By the way, the same people that ruined the Liberal party by controlling Paul Martin have come up with a clever ruse to keep them all in power again.

Marissen, the Martin BC Point man is supporting Stephane Dion. David Herle the Martin national point man is supporting Kennedy. And Michelle Carderio the Martin Hit man is supporting Brison.

Any one of those people back in the PMO or OLO means all of them back in power. They work together and have split up as a tactical ruse.

You are forgetting about Greg Wilson. He has signed on to Rae.

Was he appointed to this post by Christy Clark?
