If Public Eye's anonymous posters are right, Alison MacPhail isn't the only senior bureaucrat who will be leaving children and family development. Rumours are circulating that embattled assistant deputy minister Jeremy Berland will be replaced by the ministry's Vancouver Coastal regional executive director Donna Knox, who is presently on a secondment in Victoria. Communications director Kelly Gleeson said he wouldn't comment on personnel matters. And those familiar with the ministry add that they would find it somewhat surprising if Ms. Knox left Vancouver. Although, that being said, she would be a good candidate for the position.
No one is a good candidate for that office. The mcfd system is unhealthy and flawed. You cannot keep changing the players while expecting a different result. Fix the system and then people can work within that system . We have lost a lot of good people in mcfd and I do not see an end in sight.
Well said Fogg. What, specifically, do you suggest as next steps?
The tiny repairs and the endless staff changes have not helped. Things are worse than ever. The problems need to be acknowledged and a solid strategic plan put in place. And then stay the course. Do not change directions every time there is a problem or a bad news story. The system has been studied to death. We know what the solutions are. Go back and read the Gove recommendations. It is a great starting point.
Sensible ideas all. Knox might NOT be such a bad idea; after all, it's been the Leadership folks in the regional offices who have continued to manage very well through all these endless changes. What do they know that Victoria doesn't???
Knox is part of the problem, not the solution.
