Priddy interesting

Earlier, we reported former school trustee Surjit Kooner became the Liberal candidate for Surrey North after Baldev Nijjer was replaced bowed out for family reasons. But, perhaps there's another reason why Mr. Nijjer didn't run? Back in 1992, then provincial New Democrat cabinet minister Penny Priddy rose in the legislature to introduce "Raj and Baldev Nijjer. I am fortunate to have both Raj and Baldev as friends and political colleagues. They are strong activists in the area of multiculturalism. They stand strongly beside people from the Indo-Canadian community and other communities who are contributing to British Columbia's future." Ms. Priddy is, of course, now running in Surrey North.

Maybe the fellow has drifted to the right, even while he and his wife, were still strong advocates of multiculturalism.

Maybe he figured Penny Priddy would win no matter who the Liberals put up and decided to step down.

Penny was provincial minster, as women's equality Minister, and very respected. I recall an incident when a highly decorated Indian retired officer was in the Rememberance Day parade a number of years ago. The last stop was the local legion hall which promptly refused entrance to the veteran. Reason? He has a turban. Penny refused to enter if he was barred from entry. Neither of them went in.

The woman does the talk but also walks the walk, the Legion had to change it's policy of head wear in the building. The man managed to fight a war with his turban on, but couldn't get into a Legion Hall after parading with the other vets.

Maybe Penny Priddy knew the other folks as actiivists. Go Penny go, you will be an assest in the federal house.

funny enough Baldev Nijjer is Minister Ujjal Dosanjh's brother-in-law from his wife Raminder's side of the family. From what I hear Nijjer was only approved as a candidate to keep Ujjal and family happy. But it happens after a background check was done (after the nomination process) something came up in Nijjer's background...and he was asked to step down discreetly.

Yeah, he's backing off because Penny is going to take this riding. And you know why? Because she's getting tough on crime. Imagine, a New Dem getting tough on crime! It's something that our members have been asking for for a long time. And now Penny is doing it and is going to sweep this riding -- it's like nirvana for us long-suffering New Dems.
