Non-Partisan Association resignation shocker!

Paul Barbeau has abruptly resigned as president of the Non-Partisan Association, Public Eye has learned. The resignation was the direct result of a resolution passed on Sunday appointing Doug Leung and Colin Metcalfe to the association's board of directors. The resolution was introduced by Dale McClanaghan and passed via email without waiting for comment from the president. And Mr. Barbeau apparently interpreted that lack of consultation as a vote of no-confidence in his leadership. Board member Judy Baldwin has also resigned over the handling of that vote - occuring just two days before the directors were set to meet in person. Mr. Leung is park board commissioner Heather Holden's significant other and Mr. Metcalfe was Mayor Sam Sullivan's campaign manager. In recent weeks, Mr, Barbeau had expressed concerns Anna Lilly and Anna Lucarino would be remaining on the board, despite accepting paid staff positions in the mayor's office. Messrs. Leung and Metcalfe will be filling seats vacated by Janet LeDuc and Greg Wilson last year. Mr. Barbeau will retain his position as a board member.

It is a strange set of bylaws which would allow a resolution to be passed via email without even consulting the President.

From Sean's next article, it seems that Paul was included in the distribution of the email motion. Perhaps the issue is that he didn't have advanced notice.

Paul Barbeau knew of what was happening...he's known for over a month, if he says otherwise, he's lying...he had planned to give up the Presidency anyway. He's taken two years of good personal work and flushed..twice. He wanted to support Greg Wilson and Lynne Kennedy. That's nice.

But he was right to resign. Anyone that supports Lynne Kennedy and Greg Wilson tactics shouldn't sit on any Board...well, maybe as dog catcher.

The writing was on the wall right after the nomination when Barbeau tried to explain Wilson's bias and looney behavior. Not good, considering Sullivan won.

And with Kennedy slamming everyone on the planet before, during and after the election, what do you expect? Barbeau defended that loose cannon as well.

Baldwin sat as Kennedy's pal. A well known fact. Her position was untenable.

Beabeau should have known better.

When you go political deep sea diving without a tank, whether you're 150 feet down or 300 feet down.....same difference.

I'm confused... what's the big deal of Anna Lilly being a NPA board member and paid city staffer at the same time?

Unless of course, they're both paid positions... in which case she's double-dipping? Or is it merely moonlighting? Does it represent a conflict of interest?

Why this extreme level of interest in the comings and goings of various local back room politicos? Are these people thought to have some kind of mysterious influence over, say, land zoning?

No Budd, you're right.....just Greg Wilson feeding Sean more garbage juice.....

Sore losers...
