Part of the reason was his last name

You knew her as the provincial Liberal's caucus chair. But to federal Liberal Victoria candidate David Mulroney, Wendy McMahon was his campaign manager. That is, until this past Sunday, when the former Columbia River-Revelstoke MLA exited that job under mutually disagreeable circumstances. A replacement is expected to be appointed next month. In the meantime, party president Jamie Elmhirst is filling the position.

The Liberals on the Island are entirely in disarray. No cash, no volunteers, and no high powered visitors save Ujjal (we hardly knew you).

Keith Martin scrambles for volunteers and David Mulroney leeches at private Christmas parties to fill his calendar.

David Anderson where are you? Come home...we miss you.

I got my David Anderson taxpayer-funded, mass-distributed "goodbye" flyer today -- only 3+ weeks after the election was called. Hey, and here's a little picture of Anderson down in the corner with Martin. Do I begrudge him (and them) this last freebie? Yes. They will not be able to scare me enough to vote for them again.

Ran into the Victoria Liberal candidate passing out pictures of himself day before yesterday. I asked him about popcorn and beer. Unfortunate says he, one persons opinion. I suggested that if there was a lot more subsidized housing, co ops and social housing people could develop more normal lives. That we had lived in a couple of Co-Ops and were thrilled to see the single parents there grow when the have secure housing. We of course paid market rents and that's the way it's supposed to.
I asked him did he know who shut down co-ops? He didn't know but suspected it was the Conservatives.

Oh we Liberals are all for co ops but he really seemed to be in favour of almost anything a voter suggests might be a good thing. I didn't see the ex MP Liberal helping him out. But we have recieved a couple of different things from David recently. I sort of thought when the writ was dropped he lost his job. The folks around this end of town figure Denise Savoie, the NDP candidate will be the next MP for Victoria.

An MP keeps their job until 30 days after E-Day, which explains the plethora of junk mail coming into our mail boxes from David Anderson.

What were the mutually disagreeable issues? I'm putting money down on the fmr. CM telling Mulroney not to show up to every barn raising and corner-store grand opening as if he was (or ever will be) a VIP.

I think it is telling where the leader tours travel in the country.

Basically the tours go to swing ridings where they think they have a shot at doing well or want to ensure they keep a seat. The tours also go to high profile areas where they think it will help them elsewhere in the country (i.e. Harper going to Quebec a bunch of times).

However, they avoid (by in large) going to rock solid safe areas or political dead zone areas.

Bringing this analysis to Van Island we see Harper has brought his tour to Victoria twice and I think Layton has been here at least once perhaps twice.

I don't think Martin has stepped foot on Vancouver island (or outside the lower mainland at all during this campaign).

Seems that the Fed Liberals are writing off their two island seats and all BC seats outside of the highly urban seats in the lower mainland.

Van Island will be a mix of NDP Orange and Tory Blue on Jan 23.

Cheers

You can see the frustration with many Liberals in BC who are witnessing the Mark Marrison make over of the Liberal landscape in BC. The mainland is what they are focused on and they have the wrong people working the machine. I hear some members of the "Bassi Boys" are running the show for the Liberals in Surrey. This is NDP territory now and the NDP will eat these guys up by noon on E Day....I really miss Gurmant ;)
