Once more unto the breach?

So has federal New Democrat leader Jack Layton personally spoken with failed Terminal City mayoral candidate Jim Green about running for the party nomination in Vancouver Centre? Mr. Layton was mum about the subject yesterday. But, speaking with my comrade-in-ink Irwin Loy at 24 hours (who also runs an excellent blog, by the way), Mr. Green confirmed Mr. Layton had approached him about running but he was "strongly leaning towards no...I don't think there's any possibility about it. But I haven't told them flatly no. I'm not quite over the last election...so I'd really have to consider it."

Irwin does have an excellent blog. Thanks for the tip, Sean.

I think this whole idea of Jim Green running for the NDP federally is largely hype rather than fact. Of the defeated mayors, I think the only one who might run is Doug McCallum in South Surrey-White Rock-Cloverdale, where he would run under the Liberal banner. Despite being seen as right-leaning, he did endorse the Liberals last election as did even John Kingsbury of Coquitlam.

If Jim Green runs for the NDP, then Larry Campbell would be a liar.

Larry has told everyone that Jim Green has seen the light and is really now a Paul Martin Liberal. Sound crazy? Well, that's what Larry says.

If Jim Green runs for the NDP, Larry would have some serious egg on his face. It would be Larry's job to get Jim defeated.

If Jim Green does decide to seek NDP nomination in Vancouver Centre, he should "encourage" somebody named Svend Robertson to also seek nomination.

Teehee.

Maybe the idea is not so much to actually recruit Jim Green as the NDP candidate in Vancouver Centre as to encourage others (read Kennedy Stewart) to contest the nomination instead of conceding it to Robinson without a fight.

Surprised, why do you think that Larry would get egg on his face. If Jim was a card carrying Liberal, why did Christy Clark run for the NPA.

Also, Larry is now part of the senate. He knows he can shoot his mouth off whenever he wants now, and the Liberals are stuck with him. So why would he care?

Larry Campbell wouldn't have egg on his face anyway; it'd be caviar. He's part of the say anything, do nothing, collect big paycheque till age 75 crowd now. Why would anyone take political pronouncements from him seriously anymore anyway?

Whats going on with Jim Green/Svend and the Van-Centre? The Cbc is claiming Svend has been acclaimed but we haven't had a nomination meeting yet.

Anyone know?
