The class of 96

Mayor Doug McCallum's embattled Surrey Electors Team has hired two high-profile Toronto-based political consultants to help them win the upcoming civic election. In an interview with Public Eye, Stew Braddick confirmed that flew into town on Thursday, joining the campaign as a senior advisor. Mr. Braddick, a principal with research/strategy firm Navigator Inc., served as the provincial Liberal's caucus secretary back in 1997 and was the party's operation director during the 1996 election. Mr. Braddick, who is working under a personal contract with the team, said he had been approached to help out civic party by its candidates and uber-provincial Liberal backroom boy Pat Kinsella's wife Brenda - who is friends with one of those running for office. Mr. Braddick also confirmed the Surrey electors have commissioned polling from the Innovative Research Group Inc. Innovative Research is the home of Greg Lyle, who was the Liberal's campaign director during the 1996 election and is rumoured to have been briefly been a member of the party's 2005 super-secret campaign committee. Mr. Lyle was previously a principal at Navigator. A version of this article was originally published in today's edition of 24 hours.

and who did the opponent Diane Watts hire to organize her campaign - the big time loser - Chris Gardner. This ones a walk in the park for McCallum. Go Doug Go !!

Surreygirl's lost her marbles.....

Diane Watts is an intelligent, committed, beloved, and very attractive candidate who will beat McCallum and rightfully so. His handling of the cover up of the sexual harassment suit at Surrey city Hall will do him in. Doug is arrogant and a hot head, and the people of Surrey deserve better. Even former Mayor and current councillor Bob Bose (who as an NDPers I would not rank as my first choice) would make a better Mayor than McCallum.

Doug's done like dinner and for surrey girl to say otherwise is indicative of her ignorance or spin. either way, it doesn't matter. I supported Doug for as many elections as he has run in but never again. A good majority of us have lost complete faith in his ability to lead with competence and fairness.

He needs a reality check and it will come in November.

Next Mayor of Surrey: Diane Watts. NExt Mayor after her tenure: Cliff Annable.

Surrey girl...may I suggest the Langley bypass?

Whooooeeee

I like the smell of napalm among the ranks of right wing civic parties. First you have the NPA in a battle reminiscent of 1865...blood everywhere and an unmendable rift...now Surrey, which is so well suited to the same internecine strife, given it's penchant for mobile battle wagons festooned with confederate flags and CPC sensibilities.

hawwwttt dawgie

Carpetbaggers and claim jumpers
A Battle of the Signs

All we need now is some real honest old fashioned gun battles with vast armies of opposing right wing warriors fighting to the death in their gunship Camaros and Trans Ams.

yeee hawwww!!!!

Friend of Fractious whatever bullshit you call yourself......

There is no battle within the NPA--anymore--because the one raving left wing loonie left at the controls is esentially neutralized with principled centrists. The battle will be to see how the overblown rhetoric from some of you fledgling left coasters sits on the 19th of next month when you are left, as more often than not, holding your balls, bith in Vancouver and Surrey.

Other than the occasional table Campbell bandwagon last election and the occasional bright light like the Glenmeister (s respected friend) you will NEVER rule like we have cause any time you are left at the controls there is nothing but social and economic bloodshed, and more taxes than Venezuela.

What an idiot.

As for your posting, you've missed your calling.

I believe the "Goofs of Hazzard" movie has already wrapped.

wooooeee

them's fightin' words hoss

The only thing you said made any sense is about Glen. Many within his own party let alone the multitudes who are in the thrall of Pacific Press and BCTV have no idea how smart and capable this guy really is. The worst, most despicable hatchet job in BC history was done on Glen but one guy saw past that and had the good sense to utilize his potential.

Hey good buddy..you need to find out who it was that really messed up Argentina. Try Enron and friends with the help of the IMF. They screwed them over, sucked them dry and then split town just like their buddies are doing in Iraq and elsewhere. Now that Gordo has their bastard offspring Accenture and other Bush pirates ready to bleed us dry it's just a matter of time until we'll all be begging the NDP to liberate us.

Now I've got to go inspect Daisy's spread...she's prepped a tasty treat for me.

F of F R Wngr's has been drinking too much of his own bath water.

ONCE AGAIN you will lose Mr. Chris Gardner !!. Diane Watts is just getting the attention becuase she is building her profile to run as a federal eh eh conservative. Surrey is doing very well....in fact so good you actually have some competiton now. some may believe a short skirt and a cute smile looks good but where is the substance..none. just a whinning, non team player that is thinking of herself.

1)McCullam wins big
2)Diane Watts cries fowal ..blames everyone but hers
3)McCullam retires as mayor runs prov or fed or cretaes his own cult
4)Gurmant Grewall runs for Mayor 2009
5)Nina Grewal runs for Mayor of Delta
6)Both live in Abbotsford....LOL

What a bunch of quacks, except for Friends of Right...Glen Clark is a first class guy whom I am privileged to call a friend and the hatchet job was in indeed partly because he was surrounded by guys who couldn't keep their mouth shut. I'm a very fair guy, call it the way I see it and I've been at this game a long time. Have lots of friends left of center, and like 'em no less...

Anyway, we digress..

These other quacks like Proof and Surreygirl, need to head for the Langley bypass to collect their underwear. Their going to need their drawers after McCallum loses. He is toast. Watts is more than the short skirt. I love (not)how women get slammed for being good looking, but when Zalm was Preem no one batted an eye when people described him as "very handsome". But Diane is beautiful, so that must be bad. Carole Taylor looks like a porcelaine doll, so she can't run the books of the Province. Contemptible. Anyway, Surrey crack must be more potent, as evidenced by PRoof and Girl's comments. McCallum has let ALL of us down. I worked hard for Doug in the past but it's all gone to his head. He's become a flake. ASk the SET candidates what they are hearing on the doorsteps and around town. Diane, over and over again.

Diane has served Surrey well and would make a great Mayor.

I stand by what I said:

Mayor Diane Watts followed by Mayor Cliff Annable, right in time for the Olympics.

Once again, Once Again, you have caught me off guard, this time with your respectful treatment of BC's 31st Premier, Glen David Clark. Clark tried to move his party to the centre but certain ideologues in the NDP, who had been molly-coddled for years under Skelly and Harcourt, would have none of it.

Today, Carol James faces the same problem, both with Chudnovsky and Simpson on the freeway issue, and with CUPE and the Steelworkers on the labour affiliation issue.

I know nothing about the Surrey situation. But I can tell political watchers that there's a very interesting pair of political races heating up in Maple Ridge and in Prince George. In the northern city, former Terasen Gas meter reader and three time incumbent in the Mayor's chair, Liberal Colin Kinsley is being challenged by Councillor Dan Rogers, a one time radio announcer. Rogers looks a good deal more contemporary that Kinsley.

In Maple Ridge, failed radio personality Kathy Morse is on her way out after one disastrous term. The question is whether she will lose to former Mayor and former NDP MLA and Leg Speaker Bill Hartley, or to business agitator and long time Socred/Liberal political machinator Gordon Robson. And then there's also, William Perry, ... proprietor of a local sex shop recently charged by the RCMP with selling marijuana from his store. Looks like a good race, and here's hoping that whoever wins, Perry at least gets more votes than Morse.

My my, how you folks strike out in all directions. You start with a discussion of the present mayor of Surrey and shortly are talking baout Glen Clark and now Carole James. Nobody ever told me they are interstred in being mayor of Surrey.

Ever hear about staying on topic, or is the Surrey mayorily race just about over and the presnt mayor about be put out to pasture. Or is he a shoo in. Stick to the basic story line for those of us who don't actually live in Surrey but are mildly interested as it's such a big chunk of the lower mainland.

Nine years is enough. It's time for a change. Go Diane go.

Back room politics aside, I think the premise that governing is a trust that is earned and not simply acquired through tactical advertising campaigns is something that is ignored in today's political climate. Mr McCallum seems to me, has displayed an arrogance toward the public that is usually apparent when a politician believes in their own press and power. Left and right based ideologies both suffer from this (in varying degrees) once that they have been in office too long. So anyway...it's time for a change. In case you're wondering I lean towards the Liberals...and for those who think that Mr McCallum would make a fine Liberal candidate federally...let him cool his jets for a while first.

Cliff Annable is a buffoon! He will not be elected to council in Surrey and will most definately not ever be the Mayor of Surrey.
