Oilsands company extracts ministerial assistant

Looks like Small Business and Revenue Minister Rick Thorpe will soon be searching for another ministerial assistant. Derek Rolstone is departing the Rockpile to become a senior human resources manager with Suncor Energy Inc. in Fort McMurray, Alberta - which will surely be both warmer and colder than his present post. Also of interest: Suncor bills itself as "a caring company."

Too bad. Derek is so cuddly and cute for a conservative/bcliberal stormtrooper.

I could just squeeze him. Sorry ladies but this hunk of burnin' love is taken. Victoria's loss is Fort Mac's gain.

But seriously, socialist hoards should be cheering. One less kick-butt campaigner for our side. And like they need another right of centre vote in frickin' Athabasca.

There Derek, as promised...something positive on publiceyeonline. Now lets go for that drink.

So Rolstone lights the fire under some old Oak Bay fuddyduds, turns around a dismal and disorganized Ida Chong campaign and snatches Victory from the Jaws of Defeat.

His reward? Assigned to work for a dead-beat junior minister who's only acccomplishment is to pick more wilnuts during caucus meetings than any other minister, which is sayin' something.

Rolstone leaving is Victoria's...and BC's loss.

Maybe the folks in Fort McMurray will be more grateful.

couldnt agree more with bob !

i worked on that campaign , it was the most organized and well run i have ever seen - and i have worked on quite a few !

without derrick and the folks he recruited , oak bay would have a socialist MLA

This is sad news. But we'll be able to treasure our memories of Derek during the campaign.

There was the time he rescued that little bird with a broken leg while canvassing, and convinced the famliy in the next house he called on to care for it - Derek even showed them how to make a fructose solution and administer it to the little bird with an eye dropper before he went on to the next house - and, in typical Rolstone style, he finished the poll, too!

Derek's compassion and concern even extended to our political adversaries. I'll never forget when Derek left a burma shave demonstration to cross the street and help some young NDP supporters correct the spelling on their signs: in his usual friendly and patient manner, he explained to them that "sucks" isn't spelled with an "x".

Yes...Rolstone is da man. Anyone who carries around a football during the entire campaign and withstands the proverbial "don't drop the ball" jokes (it's amazing how 100 people can all think nobody else thought of that already) is tops in my books.

Oh puke....I 've coughed up better mush than I'm reading here.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out Derek.

Above comment is why the NDP isn't in power anymore in this province. British Columbians chose not to have people like 'sleepingwithangels" - whatever that's supposed to mean - running this province.

no shit max,,,

that swa is one sad puppy,, ahhh ..

the light....

"British Columbians chose not to have people like 'sleepingwithangels"...running this province."

- Instead they chose to have a bunch of idiots led by a drunken felon, and then re-elect them. I dont know who looks worse in that comparison, the Liberals, the NDP or BC voters.

It took three people to come up with that last post? Isn't there a lightbulb joke in there somewhere.

tdh

Canwest needs to take some of the blame. Even right of center publications like the Globe and Mail were appalled at the free ride given to our convicted felon premier by the Vancouver press.

If we're going to have the politics and the corrupt press of a banana republic..can't we at least have the weather to match?

..and can't we send more of our right wing hacks to Alberta..permanently?

wow - cant believe he lasted this long with thorpe

everyone knows that he is the worst person to work for in the whole building !!!

its sad that the building doesnt do a better job of keeping good people with some outside work experience and instead just promotes many underskilled baby hacks
