On Monday, Vision Vancouver announced provincial New Democrat pollster Ian Reid would be the civic party's campaign manager. Not announced was the hiring of his deputy Matt Smith, a partner with consulting firm Tactical Outcomes Strategy. Most recently, Mr. Smith was Vancouver city councillor and New Democrat candidate Tim Stevenson's campaign manager during the last provincial election. He also managed Kelly Quinn's failed bid to win the party nomination in Vancouver-Kensington. And he was an organizer for Raj Sihota, who lost the Vancouver-Hastings nomination race to community activist Shane Simpson.
And thus, Jim Green is going down. The funky bunch strikes again. Hopefully Matt Smith and the Monckton gang can maintain their perfect record; that is Zeros Ws and a whole lot of Ls!
hello bye bye
maybe you can enlighten me as to who managed to quarterback the successful campaign that put 8 COPE members into city hall in 2002?
Who was responsible for the win sleeping angels asks?
Four Word Answer:
LIBERAL SENATOR LARRY CAMPBELL
Well, the unpopularity of the NPA majority following the 4-month bus strike of 2001; their association with the then relatively new Liberal provincial government; COPE's two-councillor beach-head on council (as opposed to 1996 and 1999 when there were no COPE incumbents to run again); the presence of familiar faces like Green, Stevenson, and Cadman running for council... these things may also have played a role in COPE's 2002 landslide, in addition to the celebrity status of their mayoral candidate (which certainly helped, I won't deny that).
Also, Raj Sihota, Kelly Quinn, and the other Monckton-backed candidates (with the exception of Stevenson) were relative newcomers to local / BC NDP politics when they ran unsuccessfully for nominations against experienced activists like Chudnovsky, Dix, Simpson, and Lehan. I have no love for Monckton and the COPE Lite / Vision Vancouverites, but it's common for a new political movement to get off to a rough start.
So it appears this campaing guy is no good as Tim Stevenson lost the election by something like 11 votes after a recount and only after Stevenson decided not to drag out a court event.
He is runing with Visions Vancouver. The voters will decide if Tim has the stuff for the job.
Yes Larry Campbell was an excellent boost for COPE, and check out who he is supporting? Jim Green, and why? Jim Green works his ass off for the people of Vancover. So let's all say he is a loser, just like some of you guys said the NPA candiate was a loser.
So who is Jim Green running against? ( Some polls said Jim Green has the numbers to win so out pops the knives against Sullivan, by his so called friends in the NPA )Gosh it's Sullivan the guy who the carpet bagger was going to push off the slate. So how come he is the contender? Maybe becasue he has represented at least some of the voters in Vanouver over a very long time.
I don't like some of the things the NPA candidate represents. That's why we have a democratic process and the citizens will decide.
Not everyone supported Larry Campbell, and he has done well. Had he chosen to run again, the polls showed he was pretty well gauranteed of the job. If I was running for something and got the backing of Larry Campbell I would be extemely pleased, Larry knows what Vancouver needs, and he has chosen to support Jim Green to continue his work
Somebody said it ain't over till it's over. Folks it ain't over by a log shot. So we see negative vibes all over the place. Maybe like Cristie I could go back to Vancouver long enough to vote for Jim. We worked with Jim Green on a cooperative in Vancouver. We worked with him not for his hired campaign guy but because he was doing good work for the poor who needed a safe place to live. We worked with him not because we needed a place to live, but because we could see the poverty and despair in parts of the city.
Green's results agaist Gordo shows he isn't just a face on the downtown east side. Nor was Larry Campbell.
Any of you guys remember the NPA Mayor, nicknamed Sieko Jack? Model of society for sure.
I'll back Jim or Larry over such guys anytime.
Only a right wing looney could fail to give credit where credit is due.
As Neil is not the self agrandizing type, his profile is relatively low key, all this pent up hostility that bye bye feels can only be the result of his inability to kick the sore loser habit that the crushing defeat of NPA engineered by Monckton brought on.
Get over it bye bye..the next crushing defeat of NPA is mere weeks away and your psyche won't be able to handle the overload of 'loserism' that you keep piling on.
Looks like DIVISION Vancouver is turning right back into the pre-1993 Civic New Democrats.
Prior to 1993 when the COALITION of Progressive Electors was formed, there were separate COMMITTEE of Progressive Electors and Civic New Democrats slates that duked it out.
So we're now left with a New Democrat DIVISON Vancouver slate, and a Che Guevera-supporting communist COPE slate.
The only vision Jim Green's slate has for Vancouver is to divide voters. At least there's more leftie COALITION to speak of.
At least there's no more leftie COALITION to speak of.
sorry to disappoint you Ryan..but what you believe to be true...no more leftie coalition... was only in the cards had COPE and VV not gotten it together.
Earth to Ryan: Only one candidate for mayor and only 5 council candidates from each party on the ballot.
I have to admit though..you seem like a much brighter than average NPA supporter.
Sleepswithangels (aka brownnoseswithmonckton):
Who quarterbacked the 2002 COPE blowout victory? Neil Moncton? Or labour endorsement.
Some are cogs on the wheels of life, Monckton is merely a nut. If you funky bunch brats think, with your gigantic egos, that you delivered that victory, you've got another thing coming. The proof is in the mile-long string of losses you've ammassed since then!
So who is the wide receiver? Or the tight end?
yup..must be harvest time
with the shortage of sunshine in early summer it appears there are an abundance of sour grapes to crush
the only question is...should I crush those grapes now or wait a few weeks and really squeeze the shit out of them?
Your call...
But really, this crew has gotta be the most useless one on the planet. Even Christy Clark has run better campaigns than these losers.
Sour grapes for what? Jealous of their success? Yeah right.
that success has manifested itself in a domination of city hall for the last three years... and the certain knowledge that your pathetic NPA bunch will probably lose more ground in November is fueling your psychotic level of jealousy
the truth hurts doesn't it
even the COPE/VV split couldn't save your right wing NPA has beens
pretty pathetic...I think I hear the Haldol truck pulling up to your door
just relax and chase those little pills down with a nice bottle of sour grape juice
"Jim green works his ass off"
How does he do that while travelling all over the world on the peoples dime.
He is not a "City" of Vancouer councillor he has one issue DTSE.
If you caught him on the Bill good show this AM he has an "I" problem if you believe his press clipping he does it all, nobody does a thing.
He claims now to want input on the Burrard bridge bike lanes after him and COPE voted in favour of the experiment then when it hit the fan oh lets listen to the unwashed.
Yeah, those urbanfunkymonckys are really pimpin da shit down at City Hall. They, rather you, are nobodies! Got lucky in one campaign (read hopped on bandwagon not a moment too soon) but have gotten the stuffing beaten out of them in every campaign they're run afterward.
Success at city hall? What about your pizza/wards campaign? That was a botched job!
Much heat, but no light....
It's really boring and pointless to point out the obvious to jealous, semi illiterate morons
so I'll just let you stew in your puddle of sour grapes while I can still enjoy the fresh memories of reading all the comments from sore losers and half wits.
Time to pop the cork on the bubbly once more and roll some sticky bud.
Jim Green works his tail off. And he looks like he may actually have at tail. Does he have a palace? And a skiff barge? More importantly, does he have Han Solo frozen in carbonite?
Vhy is it that the truly brilliant are doomed to a life of obscurity, surrounded by a sea of mediocrity, only to end up covered in sores in a pool of their own filth? Oh vell, the beat goes on.
Matt Smith is a guy that is always pissed off. He has the social skills of a flea, and the managerial skills of Grade 8 freshman.
Good luck to you Jim, because if Matt's the best you have, then you're in big trouble.
Social skills of a flea?
The urbanfunkymoncky's social director?
Managerial skills of a grade 8?
He could be president-for-life of the breakaway urbanfunkymoncky republic!
Don't you get tired of talking to yourself big poppa? Shouldn't you be off peeking through a knothole while you abuse yourself...again?
What's with the chip on your shoulder, sleepswithangels. If you are representative of this Vancouver moncton crowd, it's no wonder not many people like you.
No problem here gerald..I barely know those folks. If you have been reading the thread you will notice a number of childish attacks on Monckton and his group by the same person using a variety of names. While I probably should have ignored this cretin I instead decided to amuse my self at his expense. Don't like it..tough shit.
