Last Saturday, The Vancouver Sun's Frances Bulla "obtained" a copy of a poll, commissioned by Non-Partisan Association mayoral candidate Christy Clark, showing the former provincial cabinet minister "has a better chance than four-term councillor Sam Sullivan of beating Jim Green in a race for mayor of Vancouver." But the 300 Terminal City dwellers surveyed by Synovate Inc. weren't just questioned about who they'd most likely vote for. The polling firm also asked them what they thought was the single most important issue facing Vancouver. The following is a copy of that previously unreleased data. The poll, conducted between August 24 and 28, had a margin of error was 5.7 percentage points 19 times out of 20.

Q3b. And which of these two candidates would you be likely to vote for Mayor?

Whatever one thinks of the aggregate result the curious male/female split is worth an article on itself. Men give the nod to Christy Clark, while women prefer Jim Green. Reverse Gender Gap?
What about RAV? Chrisy Clark's husband is up to eyeballs financially with RAV, being the chief lobbiest for the project. Who is he lobbying for?
Seattle is paying USD $20,000 to $30,000 compensation to merchants along their LRT route for 2 or 3 months inconvience and loss of busimess. Cut-and-cover will be 2 to 3 years of inconvenience for merchants, yet the City, RAVCO, and TransLink refuse to pay a nickle. Who will Christy Clark help - city merchants or her husband's lobbying fiends?
What a joke. Will the ballot say former deputy premier, or former cope candidate?
If the ballot said Sam Sullivan, long time civic councillor, or Sam Sullivan, crusader for disabled rights, or Sam Sullivan, yada yada, would the result be the same. If you ask a loaded question, you get a loaded answer.
Came to this site through link with TYEE. Really look forward to lots of information. My interest is homelessness, povery, and the gigantic gap in incomes, profits and any interest by political persons do address any of these issues.I am on the Board of Shelternet BC, North Okanagan Youth and Family Services, Learning Disabilities Association and the North Okanagan Handicapped Association. Many of the homeless, poor, physically and mentally disabled, children and youth have to access these programs that are all vastly underfunded. They are then put in the position of having to use gaming funds to top up shortfalls in government largesse. And as we all know, Mr. Campbell has discovered how great those gambling dollars look in general revenue and is thus figuring out various creative ways of making sure the people who need this money the most get less and less of it and more and more go to his pet projects. And of course we must not forget the tax breaks that FOG's (friends of Gords) get.
Am I angry. YES. I get to tell some of the people who need the services the most "Sorry, we have a six month waiting list", or "Sorry, we didn't receive enough funding for that program this year".
Could anything like New Orleans happen in Vancouver? Yes it could and many other places in BC could suffer the same fate. Politicians only concern is the tax base and that is definitely not maintained to any degree by the disadvantaged is it? Or is it. Don't we buy cars, furniture, food, clothing etc. and pay the relevent taxes on those items/
Thank you for reading my rant. I feel so much better now. Powerless but better.
Sincerely
Patricia Hyde
