Under the big top

Earlier, Public Eye reported sex trade activist Jamie Lee Hamilton organized a meeting this past Monday so that supporters and fellow travellers could "come out and brainstorm some great campaign ideas" for her upcoming Non-Partisan Association parks board nomination campaign. Among those in attendance: former TEAM and Green city council candidate Bev Ballantyne, former Progressive Democratic Alliance candidate John Spark and ex-Tory nomination hopeful and independent city council candidate Ryan Warawa. So it will come as no surprise to Public Eye readers that - according to our tipsters - in the days before and after that meeting, all three of them requested association memberships forms.

Is Ryan Warawa a relative of Tory MP Mark Warawa from Langley? (http://www.markwarawa.com/)

Posted by Budd Campbell on August 16, 2005 10:18 AM

Ryan is Mark Warwa's son.

Mark Warawa was an active participant in the SFU BC Young Liberals:

actually, he's with the bc conservative party as of last year.

So, Jamie Lee is connecting to both provincial Liberals and federal Conservatives. No wonder she was big on Lorne Meinkampf!

Sean: I actually requested a membership form to be sent to me off the NPA website well before I was aware that Jamie Lee Hamilton was running for a NPA Park Board nomination. My motivation you ask? Sam Sullivan for mayor!!! I now have two people to support for NPA nominations.

Budd: I am indeed the son of the said MP.

Rick: Wazzup Newman?!? Long time no chat! Nice photos of us up at the Model Leg!

Anon: I have volunteered as Speaker of the SFU BCYL Model Legislature in the Past, not Mark Warawa.

Manou: Yes, I terminated my membership in the BC Liberal Party in January 2003. I joined the BC Conservative Party in March 2004.

Budd can you spare a dime. You are way too funny. I'm proud and cherish all my friends. I don't care if they are Conservative, Liberal, NDP or Communist. Red, Yellow or White it doesn't matter to me. I value friendships based on this simple Value. It is called Standing Up for Diversity, equality and Human Kindness. I don't care what political party my friends belong to or who they are associated with.

And in case Budd you haven't figured it out yet, voters change politically all the time. At a certain time, they may vote NDP. Another time they desire change. That is called Evolution and is part of our growth Politically and there isn't anything wrong or bad about it.

Its kinda sad that you see everything in Black and White. How colourless of you!

Jamie Lee needs a thicker skin. If a comment on a blog gets her so rattled and defensive, what will happen if she becomes an elected politician?

Posted by Dave Brown on August 16, 2005 07:09 PM

Rest assured Jamie Lee, I don't see the world in B@W terms.

However, I do find some of your other comments in support of Lorne Meinkampf to be quite insupportable, for example, your insistence that his election should not be challenged, no matter what.

Sadly, your viewpoint prevailed and Stevenson dropped his challenge, which in my opinion should have gone through regardless of whether or not Stevenson was planning to stick to municipal politics in future. There was a problem with that election, procedures failed, and it should have been thrown out and a byelection held.

Your insistence that people shut up and eat what's put before them was the kind of thing one might expect from a hardened political warhorse, not a so-called voice of the people.

Here's hoping your campaign runs up against some of the same hard boiled cynicism you gratuitously direct towards others.

Sorry you feel the way you do Budd but I respect your opinions even if I disagree with them. You do make for an interesting read and I thank you for that.

Cheers

Budd: Tim Stevenson is so passe. And Lorne Mayencourt is a much better-looking fag. Chill.

Posted by Allen on August 17, 2005 10:54 AM

"... Lorne Mayencourt is a much better-looking fag." So says Allen. Well, that's one way to rate the candidates.

I don't approve of Lorne Meinkampf's sexploitation of the mentally ill and addicted with his Safe Streets Act, which will do nothing to clear the streets of problems or of problem people. And I was really alarmed when he had a Canada Post employee suspended for making remarks that Lorne and his office staff found to be politically contrary to their own right-thinking opinions.

Is Tim Stevenson passe? I guess he must be by definition since he lost, or at least, didn't win. As for Allen, I think he should probably remember that those who live in glass houses ...

Budd: I don't live in a glass house. As for the exploitation of the mentally ill and addicted ... I guess that Budd lives in Surrey. It is the residents of the downtown peninsula and visitors to our area who are being exploited by people chasing us down the street begging for handouts. Enough! Lorne is absolutely right on the need for safe streets.

Posted by Allen on August 17, 2005 11:28 PM

Now all the downtown needs is some legislation protecting the homeless from Lorne chasing them down the streets!

Jamie,

No matter what anyone says, it was you that I remember on the front lawn of City Hall in the middle of the night protesting for the rights of all the missing women.

You brought the issue forward and were never recognized for that invaluable work and the world needs more people to fight for the poor and downtrodden of our communities!
