Much venom and spittle is being spilled by capital city Conservatives today: in an email sent to Victoria constituency association president Paul Holmes and copied to Public Eye, director-at-large Eugene Parks announced his resignation. According to Mr. Parks, "After more than a year of being spammed and presented with material I believe to be bigoted and ignorant from some Victoria board members, I cannot in good conscience continue to be associated with the Victoria board and its efforts." To which Saanich-Gulf Islands constituency association communication chair Paul Arnold replied: "Get a life, Eugene. We'll all be better off without your dark view of the world." The following is a copy of their emails.

Subject: Resignation from conservative board
Conservative Executive Victoria EDA and candidates,
In good conscience I cannot and will not be helping the conservative party on the lower island in the next election. Therefore, effective immediately, I resign from the Victoria Conservative EDA board. After more than a year of being spammed and presented with material I believe to be bigoted and ignorant from some Victoria board members, I cannot in good conscience continue to be associated with the Victoria board and its efforts.

For anyone who has been following Eugene's horrible defeatist postings to Conservative Grassroots On Line (CGROL), his resignation will be welcomed news. Get a life, Eugene. We'll all be better off without your dark view of the world.
I think it would also be useful if you unsubscribed to CGROL. We'd all appreciate it.
Paul Arnold
Welcome home. Papers are so passe!! You are so welcome home.
It appears that after realising that they wont be able to put up much of a fight in Victoria during the next election, the conservatives have decided to fight each other.
Here's my email to the parties involved:
Eugene,
I am very sorry to see you go. It was extremely nice to talk with a Conservative who was interested in Aboriginal rights, and trying to establish economic freedoms for all Canadians by the extertion of our rights. You were quite unique
in this fashion, and had almost convinced me to give the Conservative Party another chance.
It's very sad that you have not found a more receptive audience within the party for promoting cutting edge free-market solutions for Aboriginals and our Canadian neighbors.
Maybe someday, the Canadian Progressive Conservative Party will go back to it's "conservative" roots, and stop looking towards
anything related to "government" or "public policy" as a solution to truly help people and promote freedom and liberty within Canada
instead of taking this egalitarian "Everybody must suffer equally" approach to matters.
One can only hope
Please do stay in touch
Kindest and Highest Regards
Meaghan Walker-Williams

Meaghan,
As you can read from Paul Arnold's post, you can understand what it's like to take a stand.... and add to it attempts to sensor opinion. Accordingly, I have to concluded that a voice for aborignal rights from without is stronger and more likely to be heard than a voice being attacked and slurred from within.
I will not stop fighting for aboriginal rights, not now, and not in the future. I think in an election cycle or two I will have more impact but for now a very sad side of conservative politics is showing itself. The conservative party is in disarray at the moment and it's worse elements are running wild in response. The leadership is not reigning in the nonsense.
Eugene
Here's an episode that's bound to find it's way into the Liberal Play Book for 2006. A Tory activist quitting the party claiming it's run by intolerant types. It seems the Randy White/Cheryl Gallant factor is here to stay, even if Randy himself is leaving.
As I hear it, this is just away for Eugene to avoid any disiplanary actions, that he may have faced when the local EDA resumes its regular meetings in september, for his previous outbursts. This speaks directly to his character.

This speaks directly to his character? Eugene really does have the strong character to withdraw from the intolerant Victoria Conservative EDA board. The people of Canada have the character to not vote for the Conservative Party of Canada because of this intolerance. So-called equality in which the white middle class are insensitive toward anything outside their little world is injustice.
I take it that Martin Lyon is a loyal CPC member? He may be right, possibly Eugene was a thorn in the sides of the Tory Party. And it just could be that Sue Lyon, and Eugene Parks have it right, that Eugene is leaving for very good reasons.
In either case, it matters little now. With this development in the files at the Liberal War Room, and at CBC HQ, it's a safe bet that Eugene Parks, previously unknown and given zero coverage by CBC, will be given ample air time in the next election to pillory the Victoria Conservatives, whoever the nominee may be. Here's a minor prediction. The in-depth "news backgrounders" on the Eugene Parks Affair will be done for CBC National News by the intrepid Terry Milewski, ... yes, the same Terry Milewski who has been interviewing Dosanjh Liberal supporters in The Grewal Affair.
Before all the lefty's jump to Eugene's defence I'll point out that I am elated by news of his resignation. Since my election to the Victoria CPC EDA board in January Eugene has consistantly filled my inbox with his wild-eyed SoCon rants despite repeated requests to cease and desist his sending of bigoted and intolerant spam. I'm looking forward to the end of Eugene's anti-choice anti-liberty ranting and raving.
Andrew McVie,
I think it sad that you see aboriginal rights (established by treaty, contract, and law) as a "lefty" perspective.
I also find it odd that you link socon debates to aboriginal rights discussions. Indiscriminate linking of topics is not reasoned discourse.
So all know, my position on socon issues is that the public does not want to deal with most of them. Within that boundary, there is some minor latitude but generally there is little to do legally and politically. I’ve stated that in writing several times over the past two years. Honest debate and votes will, and have repeatedly, shown that point. I’ve never been a political activist in the pro-life / pro-choice debates.
Nevertheless, when policy issues are up for votes, I’ve called on your board to honestly solicit its members for their opinions. Prior to the policy convention this year, no attempt was make to determine membership opinion on the issues up for vote. Some on the board flatly stated they were not interested hearing what other’s had to say and saw no point in asking.
On aboriginal issues, my talk to the breakfast club on Metis perspectives was cancelled. On a call for a debate about aboriginals issues, I was told that its not the board’s job to discuss policy or get involved in debate, even though the board had already sponsored a Jewish-Palestinian debate at Uvic – authorizing payment for the expenses of only one side of the debate.
Sadly, *your* board’s neglect to solicit opinions on any party policy votes, your illogical linking of socon debates with aboriginal issues, and your attempt to slurr me as “wild eyed” does demonstrate to me how unwilling you are to discuss issues and how willing your small insular group is to slur positions rather than engage in reasoned discourse.
Are you involved in politics to improve Canada or merely fight blind partisan battles?
Eugene Parks
