Stranger in a Strange Land?

It looks like the premier's office has found someone to guide the administration through the foreign lands of ethnic politics in British Columbia. According to Rockpile rumour mill grinders, CHMB 1320AM program host Philip Yung has been hired as Gordon Campbell's director of multicultural affairs. Mr. Yung was previous president of the Vancouver Chinese Parents Association. But he used to be known as a notorious socialist!

In 1993, Mr. Yung ran as a Coalition of Progressive Electors Vancouver school trustee candidate. And, three-years later, Richmond MP Raymond Chan special assistant wrote a letter to Fairchild TV complaining about Mr. Yung's presence on a political panel. The reason: according to Vancouver Sun columnist Barbara Yaffe, the assistant claimed the former coalition candidate "was too pro-NDP to be non-partisan" and that "he'd been photographed with (Premier Glen) Clark at an NDP election strategy meeting." Mr. Yung was also previously vice-president of NOW Communications Inc. Chinese language subsidiary Chi Tah Communications Inc.

Perhaps Yung demonstrates the Churchill principle about youth and left-wing politics.

I was of the understanding that the job was promised to Mr. Peter Vinning. I guess the lack of success he had in getting the East Indian community to support the BC Liberals in Surrey means that he is back to being Prem instead of Peter.

I guess Eleanor must be a code name for either Bob Plecas or his wife, the defeated Jennifer Greene. Ever since college days, Bob has never tired of quoting Churchill on every possible occaision, including during washroom breaks.

There's been no shortage on once-upon-a-time NDPers who have gone over to the Liberal-Coalition-Social Credit-Once Again Liberal team. Just ask former press attaches Andy Orr and John Twigg. Twigg is a homophobe who couldn't stick with the NDP once Svend Robinson became prominent in the party. Orr is an ex-Saskatchewan type who, like Roy Romanow, was instinctively distrustful of Glen Clark, a man from a working class metropolitan suburb who had been to university, but not to law school.

Budd, if you went to college with Plecas you're more than old enough to know better than sparking a big one this early in the day. Grab yourself some old Stan Persky books and don't come back until you know who's who in BC politics.

Sorry about getting Virginia's first name wrong.

The rest stands.

Wow is this the same Philip Yung who ran for COPE in the 96 municipal race?

Eleanor isn't code for anything.

The rest stands ... except that V.G. is not and was never Plecas's wife.

Virginia Greene is a former wife of Bob Plecas. Andy Orr quit as Mike Harcourt's press secretary long before Glen Clark became premier and went to work for GPC - why? Because he could influence Clark's government. Geez - stop spouting misinformation as facts, people.
