Growing Pains

Of course, backbenchers aren't the only ones with an Olga Ilich fixation. The talk among the legislature's spearchuckers is the former real estate development diva and current tourism, sports and the arts minister is still coming to grips with the reality that, as an executive council member, her life is no longer her own - a difficult transition that some other rookie cabinet ministers also seem to be having a tough time making. Of course, whether that life belongs to the West Annex or the bureaucracy is a matter of some debate.

I wonder if there are any grumblings from the backbench BC Libs and Cabinet BC Libs that Ms. Taylor went from rookie MLA to the top job in cabinet aside from the Premier.

Since she was a "star" (did anyone outside the Fed Liberals even know her name?), everyone knew she'd get a cabinet post, but who thought she'd get the best one?

Who cares that Illich is Tourism, freaking Taylor is Finance.

Nice job for a CBC hack. Taylor is a big Fed Liberal (you would not get a top job in the CBC if you weren't or get into the Order of Canada).

The sad thing is that she will be the new Christy Clark, however, on a happy note she is not Christy Clark.

So four years from now no one will know who Christy Clark is out side of political circles.

Ah, that is almost worth Ms. Taylor's position as Finance Minster.

I fear that the new cabinet is a strong indication that the BC Lib Gov will move to the Fed Lib side of the spectrum and away from conservative/populist government.

This is how they ran the election campaign and given there poor election results it does not bode well for 2009.

Newman: I know you seems to hate Christy Clark, and post about it insessently whenever her name is mentioned - but let's be serious here:

Christy Clark is a middle of the road politician, who is attractive, well spoken, experienced and a top-debater. She is practically a household name, and - sure - probably a future premier.

I say good on BC, if we can get her. I am sick of the polarized extremist politics from both sides.

Carole Taylor is a completely different personality, and I am sickened that just because she is a prominent women you assume she is the same as another prominient woman.

That is totally sexist, and shows a real lack of insight into politics. You are obviously just a sexist armchair quarterback who can't stant to see any woman suceed: much less two of them!

Sorry Sammy F you're somewhat incorrect.

Christy was a good pitt bull type politican, good for one liner's and attacking the NDP in opposition and in gov.

However, she was a poor minister (i.e. her mishandling of Education)

Lastly, I have no gender axe to grind. I just don't appreciate Fed Liberals trying to turn the BC Liberals into the Fed BC Libs.

I am a big fan of Marget Thatcher, Condi Rice, and in BC of Shirely Bond and Mary Pollack.

So I would be happy to have seen Mary get in Cabinet and I continue to be happy that Bond won a tough re-election and continues her position.

But I fear Mary may not get a chance in cabinet because some fed libs think she's too rightwing.

Geez, Mary Polak ... I wonder why anyone would think that!

Hey look, there name is LIBERALS - and without the fedeal liberal vote (which is polling higher than the ndp right now) the NDO would be in government.

So, if you are unhappy with the coalition go join the Family Life coalition, and take Polak with you.
