Creative email writer Barinder Sall, former provincial Liberal backbencher Ken Johnston's constituency assistant, may be on his way to Victoria. Legislative lips are flapping with rumours Mr. Sall, who was Wally Oppal's aide/scheduler during the election campaign, may be joining the new attorney general's staff as a political aide. When Public Eye asked Mr. Sall about that rumour at the swearing-in-ceremony, he didn't actually say no. But he did say he had been accepted to Dalhausie University's law school.
Yes, I believe Mr. Sall turned up with MLA-elect Wally Oppal to a meeting with First Call, the provincial advocacy group on June 8th. He was getting mildly annoyed with the crowd's constant reminders of funding cuts and the way things have been in social services under the Liberals in the first four years. He tried to remind the audience Mr. Oppal wasn't involved in all that at one point.
He seemed okay to me. Good reporting on the earlier e-mails and such. I think Mr. Sall was making some important points as an individual and as an activist. I don't disagree with him. I think there is always a lot of rhetoric about encouraging younger people to get more involved, within their various organizations, politics and communities. But often, once they do get involved and use their voice, their viewpoints, vision and values are recognized to be different,to threaten, and challenge the power of those who clutch the power and status quo. Change is something that is fought against. I give Mr. Sall some props for at least openly initiating some dialogue on these
issues within the community and at large. It's certainly a dialogue that needs to happen in a variety of places: political parties, government, unions, labour community, ethno-cultural communities, child and youth organizations.
From what I know this Sall guy is a modern day Prem "Peter" Vinning - he is a master of self promotion.
Word of advice buddy, stop talking about people, work hard and you will get what you want.
Leaking info to Holman isn't gonna get you a job.
P.S. you've been using the law school option as an excuse for the last 5 years- take it already.
