More news from the wide world of minor league politics: last Thursday, the University of British Columbia federal Young Liberals held their annual general meeting, where the would-be Erik Bornmans and Jamie Elmhirsts played out their internal rivalries on the electoral field. Turns out there's a division between those who get their support from a sorority/fraternity and those who don't. The sorority/fraternity supported-faction, led by Young Liberal British Columbia president and Kappa Sigma (Epsilon-Epsilon chapter) grand master Letlotlo "Coco" Lefoka, endorsed Sana Shahram in her campaign to win the University of British Columbia campus club presidency. She was opposed by Kim Emsley-Leik, who narrowly lost to Ms. Sharma, 41 votes to 42.
Your write up is crap. You say we are not supposed to post "defamatory" material, well you did it yourself. Its called democracy. Wether you like it or not, Kim lost because she didn't get enough votes, partially because people were friends and Sana is a very well liked and respected person, but also because Kim was frankly boring and her ideas were old. Not much else to be said. So let off, get over it, and find something better to do with your time rather than bitch about other people's business
Uhh...last time I checked there was something called freedom of the press.
no kiddin, sounds like someone has reason to be defensive tho
Judging from the comments on the previous Young Liberals story, most people seemed to be missing a big point about Mr. Lefoka. During the UBC election, he provided major rent-a-voter support to people who challenged Kim's slate and won.
Ask yourselves this, what kind of a person opposes a candidate that favoured by the vast majority of active Young Liberals in a club and supports their opponents with standby frat & sorority voters who will disappear now that the voting is over? Certainly not one who puts a priority on building strong youth voices. Other than his own, perhaps.
Again, as a Young Liberal, let me emplore all you other Libs out there to keep the squabbles within the party. Posting your dissatisfaction with Mr. Lefoka here as anonymous is taking the cowards way out. If you have a problem with him, at least be man/woman enough to have the guts to tell it to his face so that he has a chance to mend his ways.
DO NOT BE A COWARDLY CONSERVATIVE!
'Warren,' if you think that everyone is free to say what they truly think in politics without suffering consequences for it, you are a bit naive. We're stuck with those in power until the next election, and breaking off into two factions won't be productive given that the alternatives are worse.
And do you really think that telling Coco he's been an wanker will change things? Wouldn't it be better to let people know what really went on so that they can make an informed vote next time?
Perhaps, perhaps not. But I am going to wager a guess and say that you have not confronted Coco on this matter. I think you should confront in person before spreading gossip.
Coco lefoka runs the young liberals like a godfather association of his closest friends. Its so sad.
