On CKNW this morning, Vancouver Sun columnist Vaughn Palmer confirmed he was on holidays when news broke that Finance Minister Gary Collins was resigning. He added, "This happens everytime I'm on holidays. I was on holiday when (New Democrat Premier) Glen Clark resigned. I was on holiday when the police raided the legislature. It's become a standing joke around the capital that the politicians wait for me to go on holidays before they do anything outrageous." Which begs the age old question: does provincial politics rotate around Mr. Palmer or does Mr. Palmer rotate around provincial politics?
Sean, again with the non-news. Who cares if Vaughn was on holiday or not? This is not news. Your site is becoming about as relevant as Fox News. This province already has enough lazy reporters, we don't need another one. Get back to the job of reporting. If you can't put anything substantial on your site, then maybe it's time to retire it. Your ego is all that seems to be driving the posts here. You were once considered a giant killer, now you seem to be nothing but bush league.
Relevance - your criticism is uncalled for and just downright nasty. YOU might not enjoy reading speculative comments from someone who has very reliable sources, but some of us are interested. If not, why has the Times Colonist copied Sean's style in its new column on legislature tidbits, each Saturday?
And if Sean doesn't call attention to his own work, who will? Certainly not the other reporters who take what Sean digs up and then claim it as their own.
Bottom line - if you don't like Public Eye - DON'T READ IT, but quit being so rude.
Mojo - you're right, even CH News draws information from Sean's site on frequent basis.
I agree with mojo ...
I find it a pain when mainstream journalists insist on having everything "iron clad" before reporting on it - by then its usually old news.
Politico's can often get a good sense of what is brewing by picking up on slight changes in direction - well before it makes the front page.
I enjoy hearing/reading about the day-to-day "gossip" that is going on in the BC political scene.
Often it is by linking together small bits and pieces of apparently unrelated activities that a good reporter can begin to track down major news stories (and sometimes it just turns out to be plain 'ol insider gossip).
Congrats Sean - you weren't awarded the Webster for nothing - keep up the good work.
Yeah uncalled for, good work Sean.
What everybody (especially Paul S) except the guy/gal at the top of the thread said.
Well, this really isn't a story, or even gossip, just a "shout-out" to a collegue. So, while the first poster may have been a bit rude, the substance of this not being worthy of posting may be true, irregardless of the good reporting Sean has done previously.
Whatever. Every "report" does not need to be of earth shaking "comological" significance.
So, do they wait until Vaughn is out of town? Not likely, but its funnny, anyway. And perhaps we should all chip in to give him an extended vacation.
Christ, this site is just a blog, so who cares what young Sean posts?
So, what does fate have in store for the Public Affairs Bureau? A new DM? More shakeups? Sean, you've got to follow this up!
This has never been just a communications problem. It is also and much more fundamentally, a leadership, management issue.
The Premier's to be exact!
Another change at Public Affairs would only demonstrate that once again he does not "get it" - that due to his completely unreflective nature he continues to perceive the problem as external to himself.
This is only further exacerbated by his sycophantic advisors (including his external communication advisors)who dare not speak the truth for fear of loosing their "heads" - as Thomas More did in 1535.
I assume that the point being is that while Thomas More didn't deserve to loose his head - they do?
I'm with "History Lesson" - But the Liberal PAB may be the wrong place to be looking for people who subscribe to "The premier's good servant, but the people's first."
I agree saint - given their profession they tend to become after time superficial and nhilistic. However, they are not the disease but only the symptom!
I enjoy just about every tidbit of news and analysis on this site, and if I had one "comment" to make, it would be against the often nasty (and less than intelligent) commentary that is offered back in response!
Enjoy a good service while you can.
"Enjoy a good service while you can." Sean, were you just threatened by a "goodie-two-shoes"?
I think the poster was threatening us.
Must work for the Premier.
Whoa you are guys are a tough crowd! That was no threat at all. What I meant is that, so far, this is a free service. Free services, especially of such high quality as this one, do not come around very often. Other political news services require expensive paid subscribtions or substantial downloads. I plan to enjoy this service as much as possible for as long as it exists, which hopefully will be a VERY long time.
One way to keep this sort of thing happening is to pay a modest user fee or even offer donations to help cover costs.
