Rejoining the tribe

Kim Haakstad, ex-provincial cabinet minister Christy Clark's longtime assistant, is leaving the Rockpile and heading across the pond to become executive director of the federal Liberals in British Columbia. The seasoned Ms. Haakstad, who currently works as an aide to Human Resources Minister Susan Brice, will be replacing the less spicy Colin Topham. Mr. Topham previously managed the disaster zone that became known as Shirley Chan's campaign in Vancouver East during the last election. He will continue to be paid until the end of January but no political parachute has been provided at this point.

Not surprising. There is no more room for real Liberals in the bc liberal party. The meat eaters have taken over.

Will the last real liberal to leave Victoria please turn out the lights?

It would be interesting to see a list of all the federal liberal MLAs and staffers that have jumped from the BC Liberal ship.

I wonder if it was a co-ordinated mass exodus!

Off the top of my head I can think of MLAs Christy Clark, Gulzar Cheema, Karn Manhas and for staff Neil Sweeney (premiers office to labbatts), Jamie Elmhirst (premier and joyce murray's office to lobbyist), Cynthia Hareldson (sindo hawkins office to some appointment), Kim Haakstad (Brice and Clarks office to federal liberals), Tony Roy (christy clark's to ottawa)

There's probably tons more... I wonder if there are many real liberals left over here anymore. I hear Sandi Santori is next.

Yup. Thats it. Santori faked a heart attack because he's a disenchanted Federal Liberal.

Arn't you looking a bit too hard for a conspiracy here?

anyone who knows the shit hole called [rossland- trail]as well as i do,,can say ,,,safe NDP seat.
it,s to bad as the area is just turning the corner ,,,,again.

cheers nic

What corner? Campbell`s cuts have decimated the area.

Posted by C. Parkhurst on December 3, 2004 12:56 PM

well parkhurst, after ten years of ndp, the area seen a population drop of nearly 50%, the cliff that was built is now a corner.

it takes confidence for people with there OWN MONEY to come in to an area and invest.it,s not going to happen overnight but with the right incentives in place, things are looking up for the locals.

prior to the last 3 years the riding has been a NDP WASTE, totally neglected.

maybe jack layton could have raffled off some state dinner tickets,, after the protest, to benifit the area?

You are trolling nic. I guess all that government money pumped into Cominco ( BC Liar donor) didn`t help.

Posted by C. Parkhurst on December 3, 2004 02:36 PM

cominco runs the kooteneys, if it goes down, well, you might as well call trail , ocean falls the armpit of b.c.
as for trolling ,,tell me parkhurst, how do you feel about layton , in typical ndp fashion, BITING THE HAND THAT THAT FEEDS HIM,,my guess is, his dinner was cold and not a lot of convo,,,

nic..

Nic, I looked at the original topic of this thread, and we are a bit off topic,but..... having worked for a private contractor in the area, I have experienced some of the area you referred previously as a ....hole. Let`s not forget that a lot of folks have made their living at Cominco for years, and guess what- at decent paying UNION jobs with benefits, pensions, all that stuff. I do know that the NDP set up the Columbia basin Trust, which the locals are/were in a bit of an uproar, as Campbell was looking at dismantling it, or something that got them a little upset. This did involve the upgrading of the Keenlyside dam which once again, provided some pretty decent pay cheques ( Those darn unions again). The area has been hit with a lot of the same stuff as the rest of BC- health care workers pay reduced by 15%, forestry jobs lost, which results in less money to businesses in the area and subsequently the local economy takes a bit of a hit. The area is indeed sadly needing long term stable jobs that pay living wages, as many areas in BC do.
The fact that you merely say that they are "turning a corner" doesn`t mean anything. Maybe you could explain how the last 3.5 years of BC Liberal government has changed anything, and please, a few examples. Maybe you have just seen the Best Place to Live ads a few too many times- just by repeating something over and over and over doesn`t make it reality.

lets get something straight, parkhurst, i,m not anti union, but as mr. english has pointed out on this site before, it,s time for organized labour to look at it,s future. you can,t live in the 70,s forever.
hypothetically, lets say you own a hospital, are you going to pay your dish washer 18 plus 9 weeks vac plus.not likely.

people that see the big picture,[the ones not expecting a handout, or free ride for that matter, are happy.]take your glasses off.

so,for your penance, google michael coren, and read nov 6, and 13 articules, take care.
