Opportunity knocks but no one's home

Yesterday, Public Eye reported rumours the provincial New Democrat big brains are thinking about running former Toronto Dominion Bank Securities Inc. chief economist Paul Summerville in Saanich North and the Islands. But today another whisper about Mr. Summerville has surfaced on Babble, a message board frequented by lefties. According to one anonymous poster, the would-be (if the party lets him) star candidate "is not running. He's pledged his support to the NDP candidates on southern Vancouver Island. Carole James said she if the NDP wins, she would like to put in place a 'council of economic advisors.' Just my guess, but Summerville would probably head it up." But when Public Eye asked local party insiders about that rumour, they said no firm decision about Mr. Summerville's future had been made.

Who frequents your website Sean? Fiberals and masochistic lefties, gossip mongers, idle minds with too much time on their hand? So what do you have against lefties Sean? That is the second time you have used this term this week. What is your agenda? I know it may be stupid to ask but ...? Be honest Sean. The lefties can take it and you can feel good about being upfront.Did a leftie hurt your feelings?

Oh come on SB - don't be so offended! It's a good story. And is Mr. Summerville a "leftie" or is he a Blairite, Third Way fellow traveller? Or is he a Nils New Democrat?

Your a tad touchy today SB. No doubt with B.C. finally back on track after the decade of damage done by your party it must be tough watching James steady drop in the polls.

Kind of like watching the Lefties pretend that the economy is not really restored and when pressed claiming it got fixed all by itself. If only that were true the 90's would have been a whole different era. Not a new era mind you.

There you go again Kevin with your mindless liberal drivel based on the big lie technique, which is that if you tell people often enough that the economy is fixed people will believe it.You need to look up StatsCanada info instead of depending on your friends. But I think that is beyond your capabilities, as you prefer being a fiberal parrot. Good performance by Linda Reid today in front of the press. She too was playing the fiberal parrot. You two related?

If the NDP really had any clue how the economy actually worked, they would in fact understand that adding billions in debt onto the backs of our children and ripping our province into "have not" status really is not progress.

Mind you NDP'ers like you probably wonder why we would want to be a "have" province again when Ontario and Alberta can just pay the way for us to do nothing and subsidize all of our Union interests.

I find it remarkable to see Kevin Larsen pretending that we don`t have a drunken liar leading a bunch of liars pretending to be Liberals. Doesn`t any of the last 3.5 years lies bother even diehards like you Kevin?

That was me that posted that comment on Rabble! I'm Adam T, not anonymous! :)

I don't know what I can say in regards to where and from who I heard all this, because I don't know how public or private they want their conversations made.

All I can say is that I asked a person in the know if rumors that Mr. Summerville wanted to run were true and was told "yet, he wanted to run, but by the time he came back from Japan, the nominations in Southern Vancouver Island were firmed up"

I agreed with him that the NDP had strong candidates in the area, but wasn't sure about Saanich North. I was told that nobody had come forward for that riding. I then said "oh, so I suppose Mr. Summerville could run there if he wanted to waste his time being a sacrificial candidate" The person I was speaking to shrugged his shoulders and I said, "if Mr Summerville was willing to be a sacrificial candidate he'd do better to run in Vancouver-Quilchena. Nobody would consider a banker to be a parachute candidate in that riding, even if they are from Victoria, and the media would likely be more interested in a star NDP candidate from Vancouver than the Island"

The fellow I was speaking to just laughed and said "There are quality candidates running even in tough to win ridings in Vancouver." Of course, he was referring to great candidates like Anita Romaniuk in Vancouver-Langara and Gregor Robertson and Judy Darcy in Vancouver-Fairview.

As to the comment on the Mr Summerville heading up a future NDP council of economic advisors. That was purely what I said: a guess. I based it on absolutley nothing other than the fact that 1.he is an NDP banker 2.he seems to be unemployed at present. If I had known it would get out onto any other website and be made even marginally public, I wouldn't have added that. It was irresponsible of me. I'm not an NDP insider in any way, I just happened to speak to one for a few minutes.
