The New VI continues to pillage CH Television's newsroom, escalating the proxy war between CHUM Ltd. and CanWest Global Communications Corp. Public Eye has learned last night, CH news reader personality Meribeth Burton tendered her resignation to take a position at The New VI, joining fellow defectors Moira McLean and Hudson Mack.
Oh God--not the same Meribeth Burton that loves filling countless valuable "Your Say" noon news segments fawning over a lame-o, grade-Z "talk-to-the-dearly-departed" "psychic"?!
Meribeth's good with the TelePrompTer but I shudder to
think of someone so naïve, gullible and trusting shouldering a camera doing real reporting. Looking forward to Stephen Andrew though. Hope he imports the Shaw roundtable. Nice to see VI being aggressive and refusing to roll over and die like Global would like.
Holden you obviously haven't seem Meribeth strut her stuff at any of her public speaking engagements. There are no teleprompters and she is awesome.Go get em Meribeth!
You're quite correct, Jeff. I think Burton has a great personality and sparkling on-air persona. And she juggled the responsibilities of the Noon desk admirably--a notable improvement over previous Nooner Bruce McAllister, who made Al Gore look like Bootsy Collins. It's always been tough for CHEK to retain good talent, being so close to other major markets. And the blame for the fraudulent 'psychic' segments must be shared with the news director and the lazy segment producer.
Meribeth Burton, she may have a great personality on-air. but off-air, oh Nelly, shall we say wildabeast!
