Shaw Television is broadcasting Victoria television personality Stephen Andrew's last opinion panel show. The mutli-talented Mr. Andrew, whose career (we think) bears something of a passing resemblance to that of Factory Records producer Tony Wilson, is leaving the community station to work as a reporter/host for The New VI. He will be joining former CH Television anchor-thingy Hudson Mack and reporter Moira McLean.
That's a good news and bad news story. The goods news is the New VI has hired a great journalist/host.
The bad news is that was a great show and I enjoyed all the opinions and the way Mr.Andrew kept the show moving along.
Hopefully the new Vi will recognize that and resurrect the show there.
I would have to say then that the newsmaker of the week is none other than Mr.Andrew.
Good Luck!
1. Stephen Andrews is a failed actor who couldn't make it as a news reader a few summers back at
CFAX. Part of the reason was his wooden style, picked up from his mentor Robin ( I make Al Gore seem Alive! ) Adair.
2. Amongst those who followed Andrews to the 'FAX was Lara Persoff. Dear Lara, who on one memorable Andrews panel on Shaw when asked for her newsmaker of the week, chose "Schreck". Andrews said, "David Schreck?" and Lara replied: "No, Schreck the cartoon character, who led the movie box office." Lara, who seemed not to know all of her A-B-Cs is now over at Gary Ferret Goebbels propaganda ministry (ORDER IN COUNCIL 735)learning her B-C-L-I-A-R-S.
A little backgrounder on Steven Andrew.
His directional credits include `Billy Bishop Goes to War,' `Oscar Remembered,' `The Rocky Horror Show,' and `Amadeus.' In addition to stage managing and acting, Andrew has worked in radio and television. Also note; the Courtenay Little Theatre will also be working with the celebrated professional director in an upcoming event.
When I first tuned into Andrew on the Shaw Friday Political program I wasn't sure if this guy was the one for the job, however, he adapted well and became seasoned is short order...
Having been in broadcasting for many years, I believe Steven Andrew will be a great asset to VI TV and I wish him well.
