CHUM headhunters seek pre-shrunken heads

CH Television anchor-thingy and soccer mom heart-throb Hudson Mack isn't the only one being wooed by CHUM Ltd. Word has reached Public Eye that the station's crack reporter Moira McLean is also being courted by executives from the Toronto-based media company. Those executives want Ms. McLean, who previously worked as the provincial Liberal's press secretary when the party was in Opposition, to become The New VI's assignment editor (a position she is said to hate). No word on whether Ms. McLean accepted that offer.

Hiring Hudson Mack would be terrible (the newscaster, not the punk rock band). With the exception of Adam Sawatzky, Vi's remaining on air staff seem a little stiff, humourless and awkward--also Hud's main drawback, not to mention his massive (by local standards) salary demands. Why is the New VI trying to beat Goliath CH at its own game? They should get back to CHUM's roots and troll the universities and broadcast schools for fresh, cheap enthusiastic talent.

That's what CNN did twenty five years ago. Then, in a futile attempt to beat back right-wing upstart FOX News, they
fired most of their on-air talking heads (remember ex-BCTV'er and deadbeat dad Linden Soles?) and replaced them with folks like Connie Chung and Paula Zahn and their fat multi-year contracts. They're still floundering.

Does the New VI know who they're trying to reach or are they trying to be all things to all people?
