Public Eye has learned the federal Liberals aren't the only ones appointing greenhorn campaign managers. Unable to find anyone from Skeena-Bulkley Valley with enough experience to manage the Conservative campaign in that riding, the party hired someone with almost no experience whatsoever from Victoria. Party members confirm Lisa Karoway, who was the University of Victoria's Canadian Alliance campus club president in 2003, is now Tory Andy Burton's campaign manager. But, upon further investigation, it turns out she's better known as a provincial Liberal. Ms. Karoway is former president of that party's University of Victoria campus club, an executive member of Victoria-Beacon Hill MLA Jeff Bray's riding association and...wait for it...a former assistant legislative assistant at the Rockpile. With such esteemed political pedigree, how can Mr. Burton not win?
I'm confused Mr. Holman. At what point should someone be allowed to be a campaign manager? You need to get experience to have experience. Or is it the fact that Lisa Karoway is a young woman? No one bats an eye when an old man decides to run a campaign. Or perhaps you just don't like Andy Burton? Because Nathan Cullen brought in a campaign manager from Victoria as well. Maybe it's a theme in Skeena.
I'm just commenting on Mr. Holman's posting on June 19th, entitled "Who's that girl?" Initially, the title caught my eye because it is one of my favorite Madonna songs. As I read further, however, I realized these were not lyrics, but an attempt at a serious political article. I find it very humorous that Mr. Holman first points out that the Federal Liberals also appointed a "greenhorn" campaign manager, considering the rest of the article seems very prejudiced toward Ms. Karoway for that same fact. The author of this posting also indirectly states that the conservatives acquired the most qualified person available for the job. He indicates that she has "almost no experience whatsoever" but then details her employment history in the political realm. I would also like to say that I find her involvement in the different occupations described by Mr. Holman very impressive, considering her presidency of the U of V's Canadian Alliance campus club indicates she was still in university as of 2003. I would personally be very interested in a detailed account of Mr. Holman's politics, as it seems he is scaping the bottom of the barrel in trying to discredit this young woman and her political endeavours. I might also point out that Ms. Karoway, for her part, is assisting the Conservative party in keeping their current lead in the polls. I also find it very difficult to lend credence to any author who misuses what is presumably his first language. Pedigree denotes family ancestry or bloodline, not employment history, Mr. Holman.
