Public Eye Online is a daily journal covering the backrooms of provincial and federal politics in British Columbia, breaking headlining stories before they become headlines. Our voice is neither conservative nor progressive. It is independent and irreverent, biased only against pomposity and hypocrisy. Our staff includes:
Publisher and editor Sean Holman is the legislative reporter for 24 hours, Vancouver's largest commuter newspaper, and the host of Public Eye Radio on CFAX 1070, Victoria's news authority. Mr. Holman, a former provincial government communications advisor, has also written for The Globe and Mail, the Times Colonist, The Vancouver Sun and the Wall Street Journal's Dow Jones News Service. In 2004, he won the Jack Webster Award for a five month investigation into what became known as the Doug Walls affair.
Public Eye Radio producer Bernard Schulmann, a policy and political analyst, has worked on and off in broadcasting for the past 20 years. In the late 1980s, he was the man behind a number of programs at the University of Victoria's campus radio station CFUV. And, in 1999, Mr. Schulmann was instrumental in getting Lillooet's community radio station CHLS off the ground and onto the airwaves. He's also been active participant in British Columbia politics - most recently as the campaign coordinator for Yes for BC-STV.
Award-winning design consultant and graphic designer Victor J. Crapnell is the pen behind Public Eye's muckraking look and feel. His company, Art Department Design, has done work for numerous clients including the Greater Victoria Eldercare Foundation, Cannor Nursery and the Malahat Group International Inc. Mr. Crapnell's 21-year career in advertising and broadcast design included a stint at CHEK Television.
Past staffers include:
Senior columnist George Gibault, a political consultant and Public Eye Online's resident polymath. Mr. Gibault was director of caucus research under Premier Bill Vander Zalm's government and an advisor and speechwriter to Prime Minister Kim Campbell.
Columnist and Toronto correspondent Andres Kahar is former editor of The Baltic Times, an English-language newspaper covering Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Mr. Kahar was also an advisor to Latvia's minister of European affairs, a writer with the Nordic Council and has written for The Economist.
